just a quick update. i’m on my way home…

i am currently in Seoul, South Korea and leave for Chicago in a couple hours! I arrive in Chicago at 11 am on Wed. July 12th…but i leave here at 12pm on Wed. July 12th…weird huh? I will entirely relive that hour of my life then on to raleigh!

Tuesday we had a day off for travel. We first stopped by a Toyota dealership to get John’s oil change…a 1 hour job which turned out to take more like 4. It turned out okay though because we took a “tuk tuk” to an italian restaurant in Chiang Rai for lunch. It cost about $1.75 round trip for John & I…much cheaper than a taxi in the states, and more fun! (maybe i should trade in my bike for one of these?!?)

well, its been quite a journey the past six days!

i totaled it up and since i’ve been in Thailand I’ve slept in 9 different beds and visited at least twice that number of schools & villages. and its been incredible.

Sunday morning we arrived at the Hostel in Mae Chan. We met Nelly, a Singaporean woman who oversees the hostel. We picked up two of the hostel children and the hostel Dad and headed out the the village where the children had grown up and go for holidays/some weekends.

we have just returned to chiang mai from 3 nights out and about in Northern Thailand. We taught English in 3 schools as well as doing a children’s program at a Bible Club for kids afterschool. We also participated last night in a community outreach to Shan people. The Shan are a people group in Myanmar (Burma) and Northern Thailand. They speak Shan, not Thai, and in general the ones we saw are quite poor. A lot are not legally allowed in Thailand so the children cannot go to school. Read the rest of this entry »

Well, its going to be quite the adventure traveling over to Thailand…I’ve never taken a 14 hour flight, thats for sure!
I’d appreciate your prayers for myself and my team as we travel over…its going to be exhausting, so pray for safety and good attitudes and energy for everyone!
